Putnam County Comprehensive Services (PCCS) was founded in 1968 by a group of parents who wished to create a program for their children underserved by or having left secondary education. The focus then was on vocational opportunities, adult daily living skills training and some social services to support families and individuals with developmental disabilities.
As State and Federally funded programs became available, PCCS expanded programs to include Licensed Group Homes and Semi-Independent Programs in the 1980s, providing in home services for individuals. Day Services and Employment Services also expanded creating vocational and community integration opportunities.
With the introduction and emphasis of Medicaid Home and Community Waiver Services, PCCS further expanded their range of services with emphasis on community living and more highly individualized services. Also seeing a need in other counties, PCCS spread their service area to not only Putnam and the surrounding counties, but eventually expanded to more counties in Central, South Central, and Western Indiana in the 1990’s and early 2000’s.
With a growing census in the Southern Indianapolis and South Central Indiana, PCCS opened a second office and day service program in Greenwood, Indiana in the early 2000’s. This office is located near the Greenwood Park Mall, allowing easy access to housing, employment, and community integration opportunities.
Today, PCCS provides services in 26 Indiana Counties to over 400 individuals and families, employing over 500 people to provide services. We offer 2 Licensed Group Homes, own 21 properties for housing and service delivery, and maintain a fleet of over 70 vehicles. Services range from 24-hour care, In-house Day Service Programs, Community Integration, Employment Services and drop in services for health and welfare checks.
PCCS is also very active in communities in which we have offices by being active participants in the Putnam County Community Foundation, the Johnson County Community Foundation, and the Chambers of Commerce in both Putnam and Johnson Counties. We have established partnerships with local manufacturers and the retail/service sector for employment opportunities. We also collaborate with other local charities and public entities to support each other’s missions; the City of Greencastle, DePauw University, Local Homeless Shelters, Main Street Programs, Art Fairs, Farmer’s Markets and the Kiwanis Aktion Club.
The PCCS administration team strives to also serve on local boards and philanthropic non-profits; The Greencastle City Council, Greencastle Zoning and Planning Commissions, Kiwanis, Rotary, Arts Council, Visitors Bureau, Youth Development Commissions, and the Putnam County Playhouse.
Putnam County Comprehensive Services continues today as non-profit accredited by The Council on Accreditation of Rehabilitative Facilities and under the purview of the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration’s Division of Disability and Rehabilitate Services and Indiana Department of Health.
